Real Estate Team vs. Solo Agent: Pros and Cons
One of the biggest decisions you’ll make in real estate is whether to go solo or join a team. We’ve experienced both—and there are pros and cons to each.
When we first got into the business, we tried to do it on our own. For nine months, we struggled. We didn’t have consistent income, clear systems, or a real understanding of how to generate leads. Looking back, the biggest challenge wasn’t effort—it was a lack of direction.
That’s where being solo can be tough, especially early on. You have full independence, but you’re also responsible for figuring everything out yourself—lead generation, contracts, marketing, and client experience.
Joining a team changed everything for us.
On a team, you gain mentorship, structure, and support. You’re able to learn from others who have already navigated the challenges you’re facing. It can accelerate your growth and help you build confidence much faster.
Of course, teams aren’t perfect. There are splits to consider, and not every team offers the same level of support or training. That’s why finding the right fit matters.
After 14 years in the business, we’ve learned that there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
But if you’re early in your career—or feeling stuck—being part of the right team can provide the foundation you need to grow a sustainable, relationship-driven business that truly serves your clients at a high level.
